Agentic models are the hot trend in generative AI, enabling two-step processes such as asking an AI to buy plane tickets or change a customer\u2019s order. Specifically, the new models include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gpt-4o-transcribe and gpt-4o-mini-transcribe, both of which are speech-to-text models.<\/li>\n<li>Gpt-4o-mini-tts, a text-to-speech model.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Developers can access them on the OpenAI API and integrate them with the Agents SDK. The models have been tuned for accuracy and reliability, particularly in conversations including \u201caccents, noisy environments, and varying speech speeds.\u201d The models are intended for customer call centers or transcribing meetings.<\/p>\n<p>They can also be instructed to speak in specific ways, from intentionally specific to dramatic or cheerful. OpenAI envisions some of these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eweek.com\/artificial-intelligence\/ai-model-types\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI models<\/a> being used for \u201cexpressive narration for creative storytelling experiences.\u201d I can imagine this being used at theme parks or theatrical events \u2013 use cases that raise the specter of AI replacing creative professions. Example voices OpenAI suggests include \u201cbedtime story,\u201d \u201csurfer,\u201d \u201ctrue crime buff,\u201d and \u201cmedieval knight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gpt-4o-transcribe and gpt-4o-mini-transcribe are designed to transcribe speech more accurately, particularly in conversations with accents, background noise, or varying speech speeds.<\/p>\n<p>Gpt-4o-mini-tts can follow instructions to match tone or take on personas. OpenAI is careful to point out that all of the text-to-speech voices on the API are \u201cartificial, preset voices\u201d \u2013 definitely not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/05\/20\/1252495087\/openai-pulls-ai-voice-that-was-compared-to-scarlett-johansson-in-the-movie-her\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scarlett Johansson<\/a>, who has accused the company of mimicking her voice without consent.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Agentic_video_AI_may_be_on_its_way\"><\/span>Agentic video AI may be on its way<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Next, OpenAI said developers will be able to bring \u201ccustom voices\u201d for \u201cpersonalized experiences in ways that align with our safety standards.\u201d The company is also pursuing ways to use video in agentic AI experiences.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Image: serhiibobyk\/Envato Elements OpenAI is expanding its controversial stable of AI voices to include agentic models.
